Working in the PLUME studio, these head & shoulder portraits feature creamy skin tones & a subtle vignette effect, harkening back to the portraits of the mid-20th century, while ensuring your child’s unique & clever personality shines through in every frame. 

Ideal for children aged 1 to 10 years, perfect for a milestone birthday, or just to capture a particularly sweet, fleeting moment of childhood. These special portraits will be cherished family keepsakes for generations to come.

a pre-session consultation in which you will be able to see all available wardrobe options for your child

a 15-minute sitting

3 edited portraits in both color and black & white

The Session Fee does not include digital files, but digital companion files are included with framed portraits

Fine art prints and museum-quality framing are available exclusively through PLUME Photography.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What is the right age for Heirloom Portraits?

    Any time from 1-12 is a great age for an Heirloom Portrait! As long as your child can sit up on their own, and ideally can reliably sit still for 5 minutes, they are the right age.

  • What should my child wear?

    These are head and shoulders only portraits, so the collar and top of the outfit are most important. I suggest light or neutral colors, free from logos or patterns. For girls, smocked bishop dresses are popular, and for boys, peter pan or even polo collar shirts are wonderful. We also have a studio wardrobe for you to use!

  • How much are prints?

    Loose prints start at 25, framed prints start at 550. PLUME Heirloom Portraits are printed on museum-quality archival cotton paper, and each print is covered by my printer’s Lifetime Guarantee from fading or yellowing - these are true heirlooms in every sense!

  • We have multiple children, do you offer sibling portraits?

    Heirloom Portraits are individual portraits, but I do offer sibling pricing if your sessions are booked back to back. If you are interested in a formal studio portrait of your children together (or the whole family), please reach out and we can chat!

  • Are digital files included?

    Hihg Resolution digital files are not included as these are not meant to live on a screen! These are traditional portraits, not dissimilar to a watercolor or oil painting, that are meant to be displayed on walls or in a tabletop frame, and treasured for generations.

  • I’m not local to DC, do you travel?

    Absolutely! Please email me and we can discuss hosting an Heirloom Event in your community.
